The machine exists before you can build anything
The Waterpark Simulator ticket machine is not a build-menu item. A developer answer confirmed that the automated ticket machine is a preset structure standing outside the park, on the left of the entrance, and that you activate it through research rather than constructing it. Players who search the build menu for a ticket machine will not find one, which is why "ticket machine not there" is such a common search. The machine is already on the map; the unlock work happens at the research table.
This page reflects developer answers from the early-access build and a September 2026 post-1.0 report. The location and the research link have not been announced as changed for 1.0, but entrance rules are patch-sensitive, so re-check after major updates.
Manual tickets come first
At the start you sell every ticket yourself at the entrance counter, greeting each queued guest in person. Selling is slow and the queue grows quickly, which is why the first hires usually include a Ticket Agent who takes over the counter while you run the park. The manual counter and the automated machine work as two layers of the same entrance: the staffed counter keeps selling while the machine handles additional guests once it is active.
Neither layer replaces the other. Community reports describe hiring two ticket agents and rotating them so one always covers breaks, then adding the automated machine for extra throughput. If guests still pile up at the entrance after both are working, the bottleneck is usually your research progress rather than staffing alone.
Activate it through research
The unlock path runs through the research table in your office. The table itself unlocks as your park advances in stars, which you earn by completing the mission list, and the tutorial requires one research action to teach the loop. Interact with the table, open the park-related tab, and spend research points on the ticket machine entry. Research points accumulate mainly from selling tickets, so early ticket sales fund the entrance upgrades that let you sell more tickets.
After the research completes, walk outside and use the machine at the left of the entrance. If you activate the research and cannot find anything, remember the machine is never in the build menu and never needs placement. Additional machines and a two-person machine are reported to unlock further along the same research line, though exact capacity numbers from individual players are unverified and remain Pending verification.
The tutorial-save bug that breaks the research table
In September 2026 players reported a post-1.0 problem where the research table becomes unusable: no interaction prompt, no collision response. The developer answer identified the trigger as saving and quitting during the tutorial, which resets the tutorial on reload but leaves the research table dead for that save. This matters for the ticket machine because nothing in the research tree can be unlocked while the table is broken.
The official workaround is procedural: finish the tutorial in one uninterrupted session and do not save or load until it completes. If your save is already affected, the reported workarounds are limited and not officially confirmed, so treat recovery as Pending verification and report the save to the developers. The safer habit is to delay your first save until after the tutorial finishes, even if that feels unnatural.
Expanding entrance throughput
Once the machine works, entrance throughput stops being limited by one counter. Reports describe the research line adding extra machines and a two-slot machine, letting two agents rotate while the machine absorbs overflow. The entrance remains the main income bottleneck in community discussion, because daily ticket income equals guest count times ticket value, and guest count is capped by how fast the entrance processes the queue.
Treat the machine as one part of an entrance plan that also includes staff rotation and, later, price research that raises per-guest ticket value. Capacity figures quoted by individual players, such as a specific guests-per-machine number, stay single-report observations until repeated tests confirm them.
When the machine seems broken
The most common report is simply not finding the machine after unlocking research, and the answer is almost always the preset location: outside, left of the entrance. A smaller number of players reported machines that stopped processing guests across several saves, and a separate report of guests pathing into the machine and freezing around four stars. These are single-thread observations without confirmed fixes, so they stay Pending verification.
If the machine appears dead, first confirm the research entry is actually purchased rather than merely visible, then check whether the research table itself responds. A broken table means the tutorial-save bug above. Report genuine machine failures with platform and version, because console and PC builds have diverged repeatedly since 1.0.
How the entrance fits the money loop
Understanding why the machine matters helps you prioritize it. Every guest pays an admission to enter, then spends per attraction and per food item, so the entrance sets the ceiling on everything else: a guest who never gets in spends nothing at your stands. That is why community money discussions keep returning to ticketing speed rather than to exotic tricks, and why the first hired employee is usually a ticket agent rather than a vendor or janitor.
The machine also interacts with your research economy in a loop. Research points come mainly from selling tickets, the machine increases how many guests you can process per day, and more guests mean more ticket sales, which means more research points for the next unlock. Players who neglect the entrance often find the rest of their research tree crawling for exactly this reason, long before they connect the two systems.
Timing matters within the day as well. Reports describe entrance pressure peaking at opening, when the whole day's crowd arrives at once, and easing afterward. Having both the staffed counter and the machine active before opening hours protects that peak, whereas activating either one at noon sacrifices the day's densest selling window to a queue that formed anyway.
A routine makes the entrance reliable instead of reactive. Before opening, place yourself or your ticket agent at the counter, confirm the machine is stocked and responsive, and only then open the gates. During the day, watch the queue length rather than the cash counter: a queue that stays long through the morning is the visible symptom of throughput problems that the daily report will only show you as lost income after the fact.
When you can afford a second agent, reports favor rotating them on breaks so the counter never goes dark, rather than scheduling both at once and leaving the machine to absorb everything. The combination that recurs in player write-ups is one agent on the counter, one on break rotation, and the machine running continuously, upgraded further along the research line when income allows.
Keep expectations version-aware. The capacity figures players quote for machines, the exact research-node names, and the availability of extra machines have all moved across patches, so re-read your own research screen after updates instead of trusting older guides. Anything this page cites from single threads, including specific guests-per-machine numbers, remains Pending verification until repeated on the current build.
For the wider economy, the research-points guide explains how to accumulate points faster, the staff guide covers ticket agent rotation, and the vending machine guide covers the other research-gated convenience facilities.
